Is Kenny Golladay the Most Underrated Player in Fantasy?

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Kenny Golladay is far and away the most underrated Receiver in fantasy drafts this year. It was just 2019 that he lead the league with 11 touchdowns and finished as the WR9.

So why on earth is he being taken as the 25th WR off the board at the start of the 6th round??

Golladay's ADP skyrocketed in 2020 up to WR6 after his spectacular 2019 season and the Golladay hype truly was real. I think a big reason his ADP has fallen so much this year is many people feel burned by Golladay last year and do not want a repeat.

Golladay was being drafted in the third round and losing your third round pick for the season can have hugely detrimental effects on your fantasy squad's outlook. It's a similar situation to Joe Mixon who has had his ADP drop out of the first round in 2020 to the middle of the second. Anyways, Golladay obviously entered 2020 with big expectations as the 6th WR off the board in most leagues. He didn’t live up to those expectations at all. He kicked off the season by sitting out 2 weeks with a hammy injury before finally getting on the field. When on the field Golladay was productive. In only 4 games, he caught 20 of 28 passes for 338 yards and 2 TDs.

Over the course of a 17 game season that would equate to 85 catches, 1,436 yards and 9 touchdowns. His 16.45 fantasy points per game ranked 9th in the NFL, just behind Tyler Lockett. Over a 16 game season his 266.1 projected points would’ve been good for a WR8 finish, just behind DK Metcalf. After his 114 yard outing against the Falcons Kenny G missed the remainder of the season with a “hip injury.” He was actually injured to start but he stayed out due to his contract dispute with the Lions. He has since left the Lions for the Big Apple.

Golladay signing with the Giants was the perfect fit for him. The Giants passing offense has struggled mightily since the departure of OBJ and now they have Golladay to fill that void. In 2020, Daniel Jones was quietly the best Deep ball passer in the league completing 20 of 40 passes for 652 yards, 6 touchdowns and no picks.

He did that with some pretty BAD receivers outside of Shepard who isn’t a deep ball threat. Daniels play style fits perfectly with KG. Back in 2019 Kenny had the most 20+ yard receptions with 16.

The Giants have been looking for a guy who you can just throw the ball to and they can make a play. OBJ was so spectacular at making something out of nothing and Golladay, despite being in the bottom of the league in terms of separation, is incredible in 50/50 situations.

In 2019, Golladay was fourth in the NFL in contested catch percentage at 63.41% and had more contested catches than any of the other WRs in the top four.

Additionally, Golladay finished with the most deep targets in the league with 37 in 2019. He is a downfield monster when healthy. Golladay is going to thrive in NYC, so don’t be the guy who misses out on drafting him.
